I'm not a middle school student but for your sake, I hope you're not a boring teacher. Kids don't like it and most kids won't listen. Yeah we all know your job isn't about being liked but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try seeing as your job revolves around you being with kids all the time. Don't be one of those teachers who seems to dread what they do and makes every freaking student they have, pay for it. If you don't like your job, find something else, but don't make every student pay for you being miserable. Another tip, math is hard and not everyones brains work the same way, obviously. I used to have a teacher who made anyone who asked a question involving math, feel stupid as shit and it sucked. Some kids need a step by step instruction of what the hell they are supposed to do. Some of them deny that they need help because they fear being made fun of so make sure you ask who needs help. Most kids won't do something unless you insist. Did a kid do poorly on a test? Tell them you'll help them and they can retake the test. Your duty is to teach kids and if that means a little more sacrifice then so be it. Trust me, most kids don't like to go in class during lunch or whatnot but if they really care and have to go in, they will. And as for PE, please don't be to uptight. The tucking in shirts shit is so ridiculous, and I hope it's something you don't enforce, we'll all just shit talk you and untuck our shirts as soon as you're not watching. I'm a girl, and from a girls point of view, let me tell you why we don't like to tuck in our shirts during PE. We don't wear boxers, we wear regular freaking panties and even in middle school we worry about panty lines. Don't make them tuck in their shirts, they'll hate you. Especially if it's a girl going through puberty, not everyone wears tampons at 13 and they're forced to wear pads and yes, you can see the outline through those shorts. By making us tuck our shirts, you've practically forced little girls to start wearing thongs because they'll do just about anything to avoid being embarrassed. I think that's about it. I was once in middle school, and it blew.
